The Carmelite brothers, messengers of the Holy Spirit

“Newly installed in Alençon to be at the service of the Sanctuary, we, the Carmelite Brothers Messengers of the Holy Spirit, arrived there last November (the official installation having taken place on December 17). For this mission, it is a community of three brothers, including a priest.

Belonging to the great Carmel family, our charism is “to contemplate in order to evangelize in the light of the Holy Spirit”. By intimately uniting the contemplative life and the apostolate, we go out on mission to bring the Gospel to all those whom the Lord entrusts to us, in varied forms depending on the mission. At the Louis and Zélie Martin Sanctuary, we use our energy to make known this holy couple who have so much to teach today's Christians, to transmit the message that emerges from their lives, and, in this way, to nourish and enlighten the faithful’s quest for holiness.

Concretely, our brothers are involved in the mission of the Sanctuary in different ways: city visits following in the footsteps of this holy couple, transmitting their spiritual message through their story; hosting weekends and retreats organized by the Sanctuary; the missions that it promotes, bringing the relics of Saints Martin to the dioceses and parishes that wish to receive them, and surrounding the presence of the relics with activities that make it more fruitful (conferences, vigils, etc.); evangelism through social networks. Furthermore, our community makes itself available to the parishes of Alençon for various needs, particularly with regard to evangelization.

As Carmelites, being on mission in the city where Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus was born and where her family lived has a special meaning for us. We hope that our mission will be fruitful, and we are counting on your prayers for this! »
