Birth of Thérèse, a jubilee to live in Alençon
RCF Orne broadcast “Louis and Zélie”, January 6, 2023
This year is marked by a double anniversary: the 150th anniversary of the birth of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus in 1873 in Alençon and the centenary of her beatification in 1923 in Lisieux.
A jubilee year opened on January 8 in the two Norman sanctuaries. Throughout the year, pilgrims are therefore invited to come and experience an itinerary in the two sanctuaries in the footsteps of this French female figure (also celebrated by UNESCO in its biennium).
In Alençon, the jubilee course is built in 4 stages:
- Stage 1 at the Maison de la famille Martin, where Saint Thérèse was born
- Step 2 at the Notre-Dame Basilica, around the baptistery where the little saint was baptized
- Stage 3 at the Pont de la Rencontre (where Saints Louis and Zélie met) as a crossing point
- Step 4 – Crossing the Holy Door to Notre-Dame Basilica, seen as an opening towards a path of trust, love and humility, what Thérèse calls the “Little Way”.
Throughout the year, the sanctuary of Alençon will offer various events: symposium, show, Rain of Roses day... More information soon available on the site.
