With Father Jacques Philippe
Jacques Philippe was born on March 12, 1947 in Metz. After studying mathematics at the University of Nancy, he spent several years teaching and conducting scientific research.
In 1976, he encountered the newly formed Community of the Beatitudes, where he felt called to dedicate his life to God. He spent several years in Nazareth and then Jerusalem, immersing himself in the study of Hebrew and the Jewish roots of Christianity. From 1981 for 13 years, he was responsible for the Community's new foundation in Rome, where he studied Theology and Canon Law. Ordained a priest in 1985, he began a ministry of preaching and spiritual direction, also working to form the consecrated members, priests, and seminarians of the Community. During these years, he led retreats and missions in Italy, France, and other European countries. He began writing various works on spirituality, hoping to reach a wider audience than those attending retreats; these works gradually gained widespread popularity. He participated in the Community's General Council, notably in drafting its Statutes.
In 1994, he returned to France where he assumed various responsibilities, particularly in the area of Community formation, while continuing to preach retreats in France and abroad, thus deepening the main themes of his spirituality and continuing his writing. His main ministry today is preaching, in response to invitations from all five continents. His spiritual works (the best known of which are Seek peace and pursue it, Time for God, Inner Freedom) are now seven in number, distributed in nearly one million copies and translated into 22 languages.
