In this program, Guy Fournier, deacon and assistant to the rector of the Sanctuary, discusses in more detail the educational choices made by the Martins with numerous examples. We thus discover at the heart of family life, the important place of dialogue, of forgiveness given, of fraternal correction. Education during adolescence also brings its share of challenges.

Episode 3 – Léonie or educational impasses

In this RCF program, Guy Fournier, deacon and assistant to the rector of the Sanctuary, evokes the person of Léonie, a difficult child, less “spoiled” by nature, a more alone child because her partner (Hélène) disappears quite quickly.

We discover that even among the Martins, educating is not an exact science.

How were the challenges overcome in the face of “apparent” failures, how was the course kept? Louis and Zélie made the choice to do nothing by force, but everything by gentleness and trust.

Episode 5 – Educate as a solo parent

In this new part, Guy Fournier talks about the difficulty of raising and educating your children when you are alone, separated, divorced, widowed, in a reconstituted family. We thus become aware of the consequences and new challenges with the widowhood of Louis, who finds himself alone in his stature as an educator in Lisieux. Examples. There is of course a need to seek support and educational relays. Has Louis become more lax and calmer with his daughters, in a single-parent situation that is necessarily more fragile for him?

Episode 6 – The long road to education

For this last show, we take a step back on the way of educating, both that of the Martins and the way we have to live. Education was not easy, nor a “long quiet river” in the Martin family. It is good to take a step back and understand what the end of education should be (which remains a means)? For what purpose?

Without doubt, creating men and women who do not belong to us and who will make their own way. The awakening to freedom, and respect for young people who grow in their choices, was thus an important factor. For the Martins, education was a long journey, a struggle, but marked by markers that constantly recur: joy, faith, education for freedom, education by example, help for the child to find the right discernment, non-resignation in the face of the exercise of authority, an authority of trust.
